About

Founded by artist King HOUNDEKPINKOU, A GOOD SPACE is a studio and creative hub nestled in the heart of Melun, France — just 25 minutes by train from Paris. Spanning 450 square meters and undergoing a phased renovation since April 2024, the space already houses ateliers, with a purpose-built event venue and showroom set to open later this year.

Under King’s creative direction, the label produces collectible lifestyle pieces shaped by three core values: storytelling, craftsmanship, and creativity. In addition to ceramics, future collections will also include furniture, apparel, accessories, and more.

The project was born from King’s desire to translate the essence of his ceramic practice into architecture — creating a physical space that embodies the principles guiding his artistic journey. A GOOD SPACE explores the transformative power of raw materials and craftsmanship to shape spaces enriched with inspiring narratives. This philosophy informs everything the studio designs, curates, and exhibits.

Built in the 1950s, the building once served as a paint storage warehouse. The 25-meter canopy was restored to flood the space with natural light, while original elements — rust-orange steel lintels, timber framing, and earthenware roof tiles — were preserved. The ceiling now features burned wood panels that bear traces of fire, adding depth and texture.

During renovations, knocking down a wall led to the discovery of a stone cellar. Its arched structure and textured walls resemble an ancient pottery kiln, echoing Melun’s medieval heritage and long-standing connection to craft. In Roman times, the town was a major center of pottery production. Excavations in the 1970s uncovered large kilns and ceramic remains throughout the area. Coincidentally, A GOOD SPACE is located right next to the historic potters’ neighborhood — rue des Potiers, or “Potters’ Street.”
