The Refined Pairing of Craftsmanship and Ritual

A GOOD SPACE proudly unveils its first collectible piece: a dark brown ceramic censer — designed, handcrafted, and signed by artist King HOUNDEKPINKOU. Sculptural in form and rooted in the artist’s ceramic practice, this debut object reflects the studio’s core values: storytelling, craftsmanship, and creativity.

The idea for this piece was inspired by King’s visit in December 2023 to Yame, Japan, where he spent time with Takeshi and Chieko BABA — master incense makers preserving a rare, ancestral tradition. The couple produces natural cedar incense by grinding cedar leaves into fine powder using several large wooden pestles, each powered by a traditional watermill (Suishaba). Sap from the tabunoki tree is then added as a natural binder, and the incense is shaped using a perforated metal mold.

The incense is available for purchase in two bundles — a set with 60 sticks or a larger one with 180 sticks. It is free from preservatives, synthetic fragrances, colorants, or chemical additives, carrying the spirit of traditional Buddhist incense, preserving its purity and simplicity.

For a complete sensory experience, you can also purchase the ceramic censer in a bundle with the incense sticks, creating a perfect pairing of craftsmanship and ritual.

Together, the incense and ceramic censer offer a sensory ritual rooted in slowness, heritage, and deep respect for materials — setting the tone for what A GOOD SPACE stands for.

Note: Always be sure to burn the incense in a well-ventilated space, with windows open.
